Confirmation of Agenda
Council confirmed the agenda for the May 27, 2024 meeting, including all printed items and any new business that was added.
WITH RESPECT to the May 27, 2024 City Council, we recommend that the agenda as printed, including any additional information and new business, be confirmed.
Tax Policy - Report 098-2024 - Corporate Services - Revenue
Council approved the 2024 tax rates (Option 3), set tax payment deadlines for August and October, and granted a 10-year property tax exemption to the Polish Combatants Association's Lakehead facility.
WITH RESPECT to Report 98-2024-Corporate Services-Revenue, we recommend that the tax ratios and tax rates included in Attachment 10 and outlined in Option 3 be approved for the 2024 taxation year
- the final tax levy be due in two installments on August 7 and October 2, 2024
- an exemption from municipal taxes be granted for a term of 10 years (2034) or until such lesser time that the lands no longer meet the criteria as identified in S. 6.1 of the Assessment Act R.S.O. 1190, A.31 to the properties used and occupied by the Polish Combatants Association in Canada Branch No 1 (Lakehead) Inc. AND THAT any necessary by-laws be presented to City Council for ratification. Amendment - 2024 Tax Policy - Report 098-2024 - Corporate Services - Revenue
Council amended the 2024 Tax Policy Report to repeal one by-law and extend sewage and drainage service areas in the city as detailed in a supporting document.
WITH RESPECT to the Motion relative to 2024 Tax Policy Report 098- 2024 - Corporate Services - Revenue as contained in the May 13, 2024 Committee of the Whole minutes presented here, we recommend that the Motion be amended to include the following after paragraph 3: "AND THAT By-law 45-2014 be repealed
- By-law 46-2006 being a by-law to Identify Prescribed Special Service Areas in the City of Thunder Bay, be amended by extending the sewage and drainage areas as identified in Attachment 2;"

Ratifying Resolution
Council approved two infrastructure projects: replacing the McKellar River Bridge deck and upgrading sanitary and storm sewers on Burwood Road and Central Avenue.
THAT the following ratifying resolutions be introduced, read, dealt with individually: 1. Report 147/2024 - Contract 11, 2024 – McKellar River Bridge Deck Replacement; 2. Report 148/2024 – Contract 17, 2024 – Burwood Road Sanitary Sewer & Central Avenue Storm Sewer.
