Report 213-2022 Outdoor Rinks - December 5, 2022 Committee of the

Council is closing two unsupervised outdoor skating ponds at Vale Community Centre and Centennial Village starting this winter, while adding a new skating path at Vickers Park to the outdoor rink program.

WITH RESPECT to Report 213-2022 (Infrastructure & Operations - Engineering & Operations) we recommend that the Vale Community Centre and Centennial Village (Confederation Drive) unsupervised unboarded ponds be discontinued effective the 2022/2023 season

  • the Vickers Park skating path be added to the outdoor rink program effective the 2022/2023 season
  • any necessary by-laws be presented to City Council for ratification. Council voted to remove a reference to Centennial Village (Confederation Drive) from a report about outdoor rinks, based on a memo from Councillor Johnsen.

Council is closing the unsupervised pond at Vale Community Centre and adding Vickers Park's skating path to the city's outdoor rink program, both effective for the 2022/2023 season.

Ratifying Resolution

Council approved three separate matters: awarding a design/build contract for Fort William Stadium upgrades (track, field, and scoreboard), accepting a report on surplus city property, and approving an alternate indoor turf option for Soccer Northwest Ontario.

THAT the following ratifying resolutions be introduced, read, dealt with individually: 1. Report 238-2022 (Facilities, Fleet & Energy Management) Tender Award- Design/Build Team for the Fort William Stadium Upgrades (Track, Field, & Scoreboard); 2. Report 2022CLS.040 (Realty Services) Surplus Property Report; 3. Soccer Northwest Ontario Alternate Indoor Turf Option.
